ONE local florist business has proven it is a cut above the rest – winning the regional category in the 2014 NSW Florist of the Year awards.

Last weekend Warilla Florist won the gong at the Annual Flower Ball hosted by Sydney Markets.

Competing against more than 74 stores across the state, Warilla Florist rose to the top five and was later crowed the best in regional NSW.

Warilla Florist owner Diane Hyde said the win came as a surprise when they discovered they were up against some well-established competitors.

“We have eight people working here at the shop and some of the other finalists have 12 or more with two or three shops,” she said.

“We arrived in the hope to win and when we heard the competition we weren’t sure, but we won.”

The winning florists were selected from five finalists.

This was the first time the florist had taken the award and Ms Hyde said there were several areas they had to excel in.

“Every month we had a mystery judge that come into the shop and they would judge us on a whole range of criteria,” she said.

“They looked at shop presentation, our customer services, flower quality, product knowledge, branding and quality of our stock.

“We got a 100 per cent in everything.

“We really pride ourselves on our customer service and quality,” she said.
