The campground will be redeveloped into a day-use area and overflow campground under the State Government’s Parks for People initiative.

Parks and Wildlife officer Laurence Radin said the old Baden Powell campground was established 30 years ago and had become degraded with the ageing of pine trees.

“The site also no longer caters for the increased number of campers with Lane Poole Reserve attracting 204,404 visits during 2013-14,” he said.

Mr Radin said campers should seek alternative spots within Lane Poole Reserve including Nanga Mill and the Nanga townsite campgrounds whichdo not require pre-booking.

The department said Nanga Mill wasthe most suitable campground for caravans or large groups.

Sites at Charlie’s Flat, Tony’s Bend, Yarrigal, Chuditch and the new Baden Powell can be booked online at the Department’s ParkStay website parkstay.dpaw.wa.gov.au

Chuditch and the new Baden Powell have sites suitable for caravans.

Parks and Wildlife apologised for any inconvenience caused by the closure of old Baden Powell campground.
