Crime down on last year

CRIME in Northam is slightly down compared with the same time last year, according to Northam Police officer-in-charge Ron Daniels.

He said crime was slightly more than 20 per cent lower than this time last year.

“Which is good, the difficulty is trying to maintain it,” Mr Daniels said.

“The crime picture is changing in Northam for the better.”

In crime related news, Mr Daniels said a BMX bike was stolen on Fitzgerald Street in the early hours on October 29.

A high school student had to receive 20 stitches to the inside of their mouth following an assault between a group of students.

On Friday morning a green 1985 Ford Fairlane was stolen on Cox Street, Mr Daniels said.

“A mobile phone was also stolen from Comfortstyle Furniture and Bedding around lunchtime last Friday – we have a suspect.”

Intruders entered a premises on Throssell Street on Saturday, graffiting the interior with a black marker pen and then leaving.

“Sunday evening on Cox Street a window on a motor vehicle was smashed,” Mr Daniels said.

A 24 year-old woman has been charged.
