Duntryleague due to start repaying $110,000 council loan this month

RUB OF THE GREEN: A Duntryleague loan repayment is due this monthIT is unclear when Duntryleague Golf Club management will begin repayments on a $110,000 loan from Orange City Council.

The council originally loaned the money to the club in November 2011 to cover fire upgrades to the guesthouse.

Last year, club management applied to convert the interest-free loan into a grant, however public pressure led to a decision to retain the loan.

The first repayment will fall due this month, with further payments to be contributed on an annual basis for the next three years.

However Duntryleague president John Cook said the timing of the first repayment had not been finalised.

“We are still in discussions with the council,” he said.

Mr Cook said there was still work to be done on establishing a fundraising foundation, which will be responsible for seeking grants for the building’s ongoing maintenance.

“That was something that [Orange mayor] John Davis wanted to investigate,” he said.

“Everyone realises it’s a big job to maintain a heritage building like that – the idea is to make sure it’s preserved.”

Mr Cook acknowledged the council’s support as “crucial”.

The foundation committee is due to meet on November 20 to finalise arrangements.
