Exhibition fills shops with art

Circular Head Council youth and communty officer Jodie Saville sets up Art About Town.

YOU may notice that Art About Town is a little different this year.

Rather than placing entries in most businesses, Circular Head Council youth and community services officer Jodie Saville decided to display the art works in empty shop windows and Time Out on Emmett.

“Businesses are preparing to put up Christmas decorations towards the end of the exhibition, so this will make it easier on them,” Miss Saville said.

“We thought it would look pretty good to have some art pieces in the empty shop windows as well.”

The Art About Town exhibition showcases works from young people between the ages of 12 and 25 years old.

There is a general section and a photography section called Art About Town In Focus, the pieces will be on display until November 14.

Miss Saville has only been in her role with the council for less than a year, but decided to continue the exhibition due to its popularity.

“I knew how popular it was, and I have been to look at the art work myself before taking on the job and was impressed,” Miss Saville said.

“It’s pretty exciting for the young people to see their art work in windows and it also takes it to a different audience.

“Even people who wouldn’t go to an art exhibition, they get to see it just by walking around town,” Miss Saville said.

The general exhibition can include all types of mediums and Miss Saville said there were paintings, sculptures, drawings and even a quilt.

The Art About Town In Focus also attracted a large number of entries.

“This isn’t surprising, as digital photography is popular and not expensive any more so it’s a hobby a lot of people can now take up,” Miss Saville said.

On November 19, prizes will be given out to the artists who get the most votes.

So ensure you vote for your favourite by picking up a voting slip at Time Out on Emmett and the council officers and write down the number of the piece you selected.
