Mystery woman found floating off Sydney bay

Kogarah Bay. Photo: Sahlan HayesPolice have no idea what happened to a woman, whose body was found floating in her swimming costume off a southern Sydney bay two days ago.

And no one has reported her missing.

Botany Bay water police believe the body had been in the water for about 24 hours when it was found near a number of moored boats at Kogarah Bay on Saturday night.

A passing boater saw the body in the water just after sunset and called triple-0.

The Westpac Life Saver helicopter flew to the scene near Sans Souci at 7pm and police recovered the body about an hour later.

Police say the woman had no visible signs of injuries but are waiting for the results of an initial autopsy.

Detectives have no idea who the woman was and found it strange that no one had come forward to provide any information.

“No one has come forward to say she is missing,” Botany Bay water police said.

“Anything is possible; we are trying to establish what happened.”

The woman was wearing a black and white striped swimming top and a short black swimming skirt.

Police said she was Caucasian in appearance, aged roughly between 45 and 55 and about 165 centimetres tall.

She was further described as having a heavy build with short gingery, brown hair.

Police say they have scoured missing persons databases without any luck and were appealing to the public for any information.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
