New mayor has development plans in mind

New Glamorgan-Spring Bay Mayor Michael KentNEW Glamorgan-Spring Bay Mayor Michael Kent is eyeing bigger and better developments on the state’s East Coast.

The Orford resident edged former mayor Bertrand Cadart by just 79 first preference votes last week.

Cr Kent, a successful businessman, said it was time for something different.

“I think at the end of the day, people wanted change and obviously new ideas,” he said.

“I would like to see more developments on the East Coast and a balance of large and small developments. I want to move them along faster than they have been done previously.

“It’s what the community wants as opposed to anyone else’s point of view. What I would like to see going forward is more of that.”

Cr Kent said his first order of business would be to discuss a new four-year vision with his fellow councillors.

Despite now shouldering the responsibility of mayor, Cr Kent also stated he was not opposed to staying on as vice-president of the Orford and Triabunna Chamber of Commerce as well, if elected again by his peers later this year.
