Tigers claw way to win

Golf and Sportsman’s Hotel recorded its first win in Forbes cricket on Saturday, defeating VC Reid in a fast-paced match at Grinsted Oval.

Unlucky to be beaten by defending premiers Forbes Inn in round one, Golf and Sportsman’s passed VC Reid’s modest first innings total of 76 in 17 overs with two wickets in hand.

A captain’s knock by Jayme Sherritt (31 not out) put the Tigers on track for the win after being 4/31 at one stage.

After a first round bye, VC Reid were sent into bat by Golf and Sportsman’s and were in a shaky position, losing three wickets without scoring a run.

However Scott Neville (13), Mark Simmonds (24) and Clinton Larkings (19) put some runs on the board for VC Reid, before brothers Jayme and David Sherritt had the side all out in the 24th over.

Jayme Sherritt finished with 5/9 from six overs, while David Sherritt claimed 3/26 from 5.4 overs.

Blake Neilsen opened the innings with 2/20 from six.

Jamie Hartwig was Jayme Sherritt’s main accomplice in the run chase, scoring 14.

Andrew Bayley took four wickets in his first two overs and finished with 4/21 from four, while Mark Coombs took 3/15 from five for VC Reid.

The result of Saturday’s Forbes Inn vs Masterstroke Painters clash was not available yesterday.
