There was a time not so long ago that Sharon Myers and her 13-year-old daughter Yolanda were constantly at loggerheads.

But that “toxic” relationship is now a thing of the past, much to the pleasure of Ms Myers.

The Figtree woman credits this improved relationship to attending a recent workshop facilitated by experienced gestalt psychotherapist Gayle Russell.

“I’ve got my daughter back. I can’t recommend the workshops highly enough,” Ms Myers said.

After attending the Assertiveness and Improving Relationships workshops in September, Ms Myers tried some reflective listening with her daughter, which has worked a treat.

“It was an absolute breakthrough … I learned what role I might be playing in all of this at the workshop. Before this the contact between my daughter and me was not good and at times pretty toxic. What I learnt was profoundly beneficial,” she said.

Thirroul Neighbourhood Centre is again running the workshops over two Wednesdays – November 12 and 19 from 9.30am-1pm.

Ms Russell said the two-part workshop would give participants valuable understanding, some skills and confidence to more fully express needs, improve relationships, reduce conflict and give them a greater sense of self.

The workshop costs $10, with all proceeds going to Thirroul Neighbourhood Centre. Registrations required.
